The 10th International Workshop on MPSEED and the 4th Workshop on Geoscience Big Data were held in our school

On December 27-29, 2019, the 10^th International Workshop on GPU, MIC, Big Data and Cloud Computing Solutions to Multi-Physics Problems (MPSEED2019) and the 4^th Workshop on Geoscience Big Data (BIGG2019) were held in our school. More than 200 experts and scholars from many domestic and international universities, such as Columbia University, University of Exeter, Deakin University, Tsinghua University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, gathered together to discuss the academic frontier and development direction of high performance computing and geoscience big data. The meeting was chaired by the dean of School of Computing in China University of Geoscience Professor Wang Lizhe.

The vice president Professor Wang Hua delivered a speech. He pointed out that high-performance computing was an important tool for promoting the technological innovation, economic development, social progress, national security, and held a special status in national strategy. This technique has already become the strategic point that every country in the world is competitively fighting for. The fusion of high-performance computing and geoscience big data, involves the intersection of geoscience and information science, which can solve the scientific or engineering problems that are difficult to solve by traditional methods.

In recent years, our school strengthened the construction of computer science to promote the research and development of high-performance computing and geoscience big data. With our effort and persistence, the level of computer discipline construction and the influence of the industry in our school have been constantly improving. According to Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data released on November 15^th, 2019, computer science has been listed in the top 0.5% of ESI. Professor Wang Hua hoped that the experts conducted in-depth discussions in the field of academic research on theory and methods of high-performance computing, big data engineering and geotechnical application, and so on. This workshop will further enhance the internationalization level of computer science in our school.

The secretary of the Party Committee of School of Computing, Professor Lv Jun, said that big data has become a national strategy, which provides a whole new way of thinking and exploring objective laws, and a new means of transforming nature and society for human beings. After the workshop held successfully, it would build a high-end cutting-edge communication platform in the field of high-performance computing, big data and artificial intelligence, to advance exchanges and cooperation between experts and scholars at home and abroad for promoting technological progress and industrial development in related fields.
