The Key Laboratory of Geological Survey and Evaluation of Ministry of Education was established in 2018 by the Ministry of Education and is supported by the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). Facing the needs of advanced technology and modernization, the laboratory focuses on the construction of disciplines, and promotes the deep integration of disciplines such as geology and information science. It conducts surveys and evaluations of geological environment and engineering, geophysical exploration equipment and space information technology, and Research on the theory and method of strategic mineral resources exploration, providing scientific basis and technical support for construction and decision-making in related fields.

The laboratory implements the laboratory director responsibility system under the guidance of the academic committee, and an office is responsible for daily management and services. The director of the laboratory is fully responsible for the scientific research planning and daily operation management of the laboratory. The chief scientist is responsible for scientific research on each scientific research platform. We will implement a management model of "inclusiveness, democracy, mobility, standardization, innovation, and openness", and advocate a "hard and simple, truth-seeking and pragmatic" work style.

The laboratory is an independent graduate enrollment and training unit of the school. The school conducts cross-disciplinary integration. Under the first-level disciplines of geological resources and geological engineering, it has independently set up a doctoral program for second-level disciplines in military geology. This program is supported by two top-ranked disciplines, including geological resources & engineering and geology. it is also supported by the other three first-level disciplines including computer science & technology, geophysics, and surveying science & technology. The laboratory currently has three main research directions, namely geological environment & engineering, geophysics & spatial information technology, and geological resources. The research directions involving geological resources & geoengineering, geology, computer science & technology, geophysics, and surveying science & technology. Relying on the research direction of the laboratory, the laboratory has established 7 research units and corresponding research sections, namely: Hydrological Environment Section, Engineering Geology Section, Geological Survey Section, Geophysical Section, Spatial Information Section, Geological Survey Section, Strategic Mineral Resources Section. the advantageous resources are coordinated and integrated by our university. Specifically, a laboratory graduate mentor team is established by the experts and scholars of related departments and directly-affiliated units. The laboratory currently has 21 doctoral supervisors and 23 master supervisors.

There are 56 scientific researchers in the laboratory. The current director of the laboratory, Professor Jiang Shaoyong, is the first group of distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in China. Also, he is the chief scientist of the "973" project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the “National key research and development program”. The key members of the laboratory include more than ten national, provincial and ministerial experts and high-level specialists. The laboratory is dedicated to building a scientific research team with a reasonable structure and cross-disciplinary integration.
