Master Program of Computer Science and Technology

The master of computer science and technology program was approved in 2005, aiming at providing courses with solid theory and strong technological background, as well as high-level teaching system in computer science. The short-term goal is to be in the first-class in computer science in Hubei Province and well known in China. The long-term goal is to be first-class in China and well-known all over the world.

The research interests include artificial intelligence and pattern recognition, computer architecture and high-performance computing, software engineering and system software, computer networks and information security. The tutor team of this subject includes 17 doctoral tutors, 87 postgraduate tutors, including 1 with The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 National Outstanding Mid-aged Expert,1 member with Trans-Century Training Programs Foundation for the Talents by Ministry of Education of China, 2 members in Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China, 2 members in Chutian Scholars Distinguished Professors, 2 members with Chutian Scholars Chair Professors, 1 member with Hubei Provincial Teaching Master, and 1 member in Hubei Provincial Hundred Talents Program.

In the past five years, we have been funded by more than 40 projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), and National Science and Technology Major Project. Those projects include 2 National Key Natural Science Foundation of China projects, 1 State Administration of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense Key project, and 3 National Defense high-tech projects, with a total funding of nearly 100 million yuan. We have published more than 200 SCI papers and 10 highly cited ESI papers as the first or corresponding authors.

In 2018, we ranked in the 301-400 of world-class subject by Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities. We ranked 147th in the world in the ranking of USNEWS world universities and 30th in the ranking of Chinese universities.

We have always adhered to the concept of "open, competitive, and united." We have established extensive exchanges and cooperation programs with the University of New South Wales in Australia, the University of Western Ontario in Canada, the University of New Brunswick, and the University of Aizu in Japan. We have hired a number of foreign computer experts as guest professors and lecturers of our school.

Currently we have a number of laboratories, such as the “GIS Software and Application Engineering Research Center”, intelligent computing, information security and network engineering, “3S”, spatial information processing, intelligent robots, and graphic image processing.

Our graduates include senior researchers in famous universities such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and Peking University, as well as R&D staffs in famous IT companies such as Baidu, Ali, Tencent, Huawei and Lenovo. Our exchange programs partners include universities in the United States, Canada and Europe, as well as big companies in information in areas in banking, industry and commerce, national defense industry, and other industries.
