1.Background

China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) established an undergraduate major in information security in 2002. In 2013, this major was selected as a characteristic specialty construction project of "Comprehensive Reform of Major" for undergraduate students in Hubei province. In 2014, it was approved as a program for master degree. In 2015 and 2017, it was selected as an "Undergraduate Teaching Engineering" project of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). This major has a high-quality teaching environment, high-level teaching staffs and first-class teaching quality, which provides guarantees for graduates with professional higher education and further study abroad. In the past four years, the employment rate of graduates of this major is nearly 100%, and nearly 40% of the graduates pursue postgraduate studies or study abroad.

2.Objectives

This major aims to cultivate talents with compound knowledge structure, strong innovation ability and high comprehensive quality in information security, especially to meet the requirements of national cyberspace security construction and geospatial information science development, etc. Graduates can work in the information security research, application, development and management in various related fields such as the computer, communications, e-finance, e-government, military, public security. In particular, this major cultivates talents in cyberspace security research, application and development for major national strategic needs such as national defense, land resources, and geospatial information.

3.Requirements

The information security major is an emerging comprehensive discipline based on the cross-combination of disciplines such as cyberspace security, computer science and technology, mathematics, and communication engineering. Graduates of this major are required to firmly master the theoretical technology and practical skills of cyberspace security, have a solid mathematical foundation, strong interest in research and development and strong practical ability, and be able to engage in research, application, service and management in cyberspace security and related fields.

4.Courses

Major courses included are as follows: advanced mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, advanced computer language programming, data structures, operating systems, computer composition principles, assembly language, cyberspace security introduction, cybersecurity, information security mathematical foundation, modern cryptography, computers network and communication, information theory and coding, software security, information content security, mobile Internet security, embedded system security, e-commerce and e-government security, information hiding technology, reverse engineering analysis, core technology and practice of network attack and defense, artificial intelligence and security, big data security, network security engineering practice, comprehensive information security practice, etc.

5.Faculty and Talent Training

This major has a high-level team of teaching staffs and a high-quality teaching environment. After 17 years of construction and accumulation, it has formed the advantages of "positive academic attitudes, high grade point average, more research guarantees, more awards and good employment", and graduates are in short supply. This major has three overseas specially invited chair professors and two specially invited professors of China University of Geosciences. Currently, there are 15 full-time teaching staffs, including four professors and eight associate professors. All the teaching staffs have doctorates from well-known universities at home and abroad, and nearly 87% have overseas study and work experience. In recent years, remarkable achievements in undergraduate education have been made. More than 10 provincial teaching research projects have been approved. Teaching staffs received more than 30 honors, including the second prize of provincial teaching research results, the first prize of young teachers' lecture competition, the outstanding prize of teaching, the Golden Stone Award, the Zhu Xun's Award, the most popular teacher, the most popular course for students, the top-10 class teachers, and the MOOC award of China University. More than 10 professional textbooks have been published. In the past five years, the students of this major have won more than 50 honors, such as the first prize of national college students' information security competition, the grand prize of national computer simulation competition, the grand prize of Challenge Cup Hubei Province, and the first prize of national university mobile Internet application innovation competition.

6.Career Prospects

In the past four years, the employment rate of graduates of this major is nearly 100%, and nearly 40% of the graduates pursue postgraduate studies or study abroad. The employers of graduates of this major include well-known Internet companies such as Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba, JD.com, and NetEase, well-known security companies such as NSFOCUS, 360, Antiy, Qi-Anxin, well-known banks and financial institutions such as UnionPay, as well as other well-known companies at home and abroad such as China Telecom, Air China, China National Petroleum Corporation, Hikvision, OPPO, IBM and Intel. The average annual salary is nearly 120000 RMB, which has maintained continuous growth and ranked among the top for many years. Graduates also serve in the government departments such as the security department, the audit department, and the military and police departments of Hubei Province.
